Joining Settle as a Software Engineer on the Roots team, you will help manage and develop our core Catalogue system, which spans across all of Settle, handling Customer Issues and integrations with partner companies such as QBO, Shopify, and Netsuite. You’ll play a vital role in designing and building high-impact, results-oriented systems, products, and features. With strong product-market fit, organic growth, and a robust long-term roadmap, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team driving Settle’s ongoing success.
We are seeking versatile back-end engineers (some front-end exposure a plus) with a product-focused mindset to elevate our business to new heights. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, capable of designing enduring foundational systems for the coming years, and adept at steering clear of scope creep while delivering incremental value. We want someone who is iterative in their approach, moves with agility, and places the customer at the forefront of their decision-making process.
- Build scalable and reliable third-party integrations by developing APIs and systems that connect smoothly and securely.
- Architect extensible data models, services and APIs to power customer-facing features and ensure a seamless user experience.
- Optimize existing systems and infrastructure to support growing users, features, partners, and engineers.
- Ensure seamless communication and effective collaboration with Product and Design teams in developing customer/user-facing functionality for our app.
- Mentor and support the development of team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the engineering team.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to build reliable testing, integration, and deployment frameworks.
- Independently drive projects to completion while effectively communicating progress and challenges to technical and non-technical colleagues.
- 5+ years of industry experience, preferably in the B2B fintech and/or startup sector.
- A strong understanding of scaling infrastructure, designing technical architecture, and building APIs.
- Technical requirements: Proficiency in CS fundamentals, a willingness to learn Ruby on Rails (our primary backend language), and mastery of OOP principles. Familiarity with an ORM framework, such as Django or Hibernate, is also preferred.
- Experience designing scalable systems that not only meet growing customer demand but also support internal applications and seamless third-party integrations.
- Experience building microservices with a thoughtful and strategic approach, ensuring scalability, maintainability and resilience.
- Web-app architecture design. You have curiosity or understanding of how everything fits together from web services up through display and love designing reliable and extensible systems.
- Adaptability. We’re a startup and project needs can change quickly. You love to jump into a new problem, learn what’s needed, and solve it.
- Customer-centric mentality. You care about the user, strive to understand their needs and build tools to solve their problems.
- Leadership. With rapid growth, we need and expect everyone to be a leader. You have the humility and self-awareness to understand and navigate the unknown while holding yourself and others to a high bar. Additionally, you enjoy mentoring and fostering the development of fellow engineers.
