\nHow you will make an impact\nAs a Backend Engineer, you will be evolving our core services with a keen eye on performance, scalability, and quality. You will be exposed to interesting problems as we develop new features in our product, as well as participate in improvements and changes in our architecture to better position ourselves for growth and scale.\nOur tech stack\n* \nGolang, TypeScript, Node.js, PSQL, React\n* \nGraphQL, REST\n* \nPulumi, AWS, Vercel, Cloudflare, Fastly, New Relic, Github actions\n\n\n\nSome of your tasks and responsibilities:\n* \nCollaborate closely within an autonomous, cross-functional team, solving exciting problems and planning continuous improvements.\n* \nDesign and implement scalable and performant solutions.\n* \nIdentify and improve performance, scalability, and testability bottlenecks.\n* \nMake architectural decisions and recommendations for creating the best-in-class user experience.\n* \nParticipate as part of internal Engineering Guilds, to identify architectural improvements, and prioritize and act on them.\n* \nBring creative ideas and expertise to the table, having a real impact on our product and engineering practices.\n* \nWork in an environment that supports your individual growth.\n\n\n\n\nExpectations timeline\n1 Month\nYou have gone through different onboarding sessions covering our product, current architecture, and relevant services we run on production, learned about the company’s origin and current vision and met colleagues from different departments as part of onboarding as well as weekly virtual social events.\nYou’d have started to get to know your teammates, learned how we work daily, and contributed to our codebase.\n3 Months\nYou will be familiar with most concepts related to our product and worked alongside your teammates to deliver features and improvements on production successfully.\nYou’d have had a few 1:1s with your team lead to check in on how things are going, and you would have participated in cross-team engineering discussions and collaborated with fellow engineers to improve our architecture and developer experience.\n6 Months\nYou will have made solid contributions to our product and stack, shared knowledge and previous experiences, helping substantially with scalable, mission-critical services.\n\nWhat we expect from you\n* \n5+ years of strong backend development experience with strongly typed languages with a minimum of 2 years of experience with Golang.\n* \nExperience writing testable code, following best practices and design patterns when applicable\n* \nExperience with developing APIs, ideally using GraphQL and/or REST\n* \nStrong industry experience in architecture and development of scalable production quality backend systems\n* \nSolid experience with modern relational databases, SQL, and understanding of data modeling, indexing, etc.\n* \nMindful about performance and able to measure it meaningfully\n* \nStrong expertise in analyzing product requirements and creating technical designs\n* \nStrong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to take ownership, but also ask for help and advice when needed\n* \nOpenness to feedback and willingness to learn, reflect, and grow within the organization\n* \nExperience in successfully driving technical, business, and people-related initiatives that improved productivity, performance, and quality\n\n\nBonus points:\n* \nExperience with GraphQL and Typescript\n* \nExperience with cloud-based development (AWS, GCP, etc.)\n* \nExperience with infrastructure as code tooling\n* \nExperience with monitoring and observability tooling\n* \nKnowledge of Docker and containerized applications\n\n\nAbout usHygraph is a dynamic Berlin-based startup that in its recent round raised $35M in funding.
